Kerby Rotary Shelter is the first purpose built shelter in North America for older adults facing elder abuse. There are only two shelters in Alberta dedicated to older adults. Kerby Rotary Shelter provides a safe place for older men and women of over 55 years fleeing elder abuse and supports them to settle in at the Shelter through services designed and adapted to meet their express needs and make their move in process as trauma free as possible. The average stay of older adults at the Shelter is 60 days.

Kerby Rotary Shelter helps older adults who are:

  • Victims of physical, psychological, financial, emotional and sexual abuse
  • In crisis

Services:

Kerby Rotary Shelter offers a variety of services which support and engage the older adults in rebuilding a healthy life. Clients are connected with community resources and receive the support they need in order to break the cycle of abuse. Shelter services include:

  • 24 hours a day support
  • Crisis intervention
  • Housing and financial support
  • Medical referrals and community connections
  • Advocacy
  • Life skills training

Our community case worker supports clients when they transition back in the community through a variety of services.
