Position: Assistant to Adult Day Program – part time LPN/RN 

Salary: $24.68 / hr 

Education: LPN registered with CLPNA or RN licensed by CARNA 

Experience: Experience with older adults preferred 

Hours: Wednesdays 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. with a paid lunch hour.  Lunch hour is given but it is within reach of the clients.  Also vacation relief and sick days when available. 

Conditions: Cannot work in other facilities on the same day. 

The Adult Day Program provides holistic care for older adults who come to the centre one or two days a week for socialization and recreation and to give their caregivers an opportunity for rest and relaxation.  

Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Client care is most important and includes monitoring of daily activities and overall health.  The nurse must provide personal care according to the care plan.  Contact case managers, doctor, pharmacist or family members when required. Take vital signs and conduct emergency responses.   
  • Care planning:  Care planning is part of the Alberta Health Service client administration system.  Monitoring and documentation of all client health must be done according to the care plan system. 
  • Open communication must be kept with the Case Manager and other members of the Kerby team. 
  • Education:  opportunities may arise to educate clients on healthy lifestyle choices and train staff on health protocols such as medication management and hand hygiene. 
  • Advise managers and employees on the interpretation of human resource policies and procedures including Employment Standards queries. 
  • Supervision:  Provide direct and indirect supervision of Health Care Aids in terms of client care needs and medication administration. 
  • Maintain Continuing Care Standards as required by Alberta Health Services. 
Competencies 
  • Must have competent computer skills 
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills 
  • Must be a client oriented 
  • Maintain First Aid/CPR at Basic Rescuer Level, every two years 
  • WHMIS

Position:         Caseworker

Salary:           $43,172

Education:     Degree or two-year post-secondary diploma in Social Work required.  Equivalent experience may be considered under special circumstances.

Experience:  Preference given to experience in related settings such as shelters, resource lines, distress lines, care centres, seniors’ housing and seniors’ centres.

Training or experience in the following areas an asset:  family violence, elder abuse, marginalized populations, addictions and mental health.

Competencies:

  • Maintain a current level of knowledge including CPR at Basic Rescuer Level, First Aid.
  • HMIS training an asset.
  • Trauma Informed Care an asset
  • Calm under pressure, organized, good written and verbal communication skills, pro-active and have intermediate level computer skills.
  • In case of an emergency must be able to walk clients down the stairs.

Hours:            7:45 am – 3:45 pm, Monday to Friday with one hour for lunch.

The Caseworker takes a leadership role in engaging with clients and fostering independence through case management activities.  This means managing some case files, meeting on a weekly basis with clients, ensuring the clients are meeting goals and fostering personal development and life skills.   Activities also include answering phones and information and referral.  Ensures that all calls to the Elder Abuse Response Line are appropriately referred to Community Caseworker or the community.

Responsible for ensuring building security and the safety of residents including during medical emergencies and fire alarms.  Will be working with older adults who have experienced abuse in a strong team environment; there are times when working alone is required with immediate on-call support.  Will also be required to provide on-call coverage.

For nearly 50 years, Kerby Centre has established strong working relationships with the Nonprofit  partners and other non-profit organizations. As a result, we have been able to increase funding to support programs, services, operations and expand into Medicine Hat.

Overview

We have a permanent full-time position available for a Food Services Support in Medicine Hat!

If you have experience in the food service industry and believe in providing quality food to seniors, then we may have the perfect role for you. We are looking for someone who has a passion for engaging with seniors and are dedicated to their wellbeing. The Food Services Support will assist the Food Services Supervisor in all aspects of food preparation and delivery of meals at the Veiner/Strathcona Centres’ and Meals on Wheels program.

Role Specifics

  1. Food Preparation:
  • Prepare and cook meals in accordance with the menu plans provided by the Food Services Supervisor.
  • Ensure people working with food are following safe food handling and sanitary practices.
  1. Catering:
  • Prepare and deliver custom food or coffee orders.
  • Assist in the meal preparation and serving at special events.
  1. Cleaning:
  • Perform dishwashing and sanitization duties, when required.
  • Responsible for organization and cleanliness of all stations where food is prepared, consumed, or served. This includes the fridge, stove, counters and walls.
  • Maintain safe food handling and sanitization/disinfection practices.
  1. Volunteer Support: Ensure volunteers are trained in relevant kitchen duties. Support the volunteers in preparing meals, cleaning of stations and food storage.
  1. Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service. Treat all customers, staff and volunteers with respect.
  1. Ensure food quality and presentation are prioritized to encourage returning customers. Check if all kitchen equipment is in good working order. Close equipment and notify the supervisor if repairs need to be made, if not in good working order.

Qualifications/Expertise

 High school graduate. Industry equivalent experience may be considered.

The Community Outreach Assistant is a key member of the Fund Development and Marketing team. This individual will be leading the fundraising and marketing initiatives, under the guidance of the Director of Fund Development and Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications. You will be promoting and marketing the Veiner, Strathcona and Meals on Wheels program in Medicine Hat. You will also be required to work with individual donors, corporate partners, and community groups through all stages of the donor cycle. In addition, the role will require you to identify and foster long-term relationships within a broad portfolio of individuals and organizations.

Role Specifics

The Community Outreach Assistant responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Fund Development & Administration

  1. Stewardship:
  • Build a strong relationship with local donors, community groups, foundations, and corporate partners. This includes: face to face meetings, cold calling new prospects, written proposals, presentations and grant applications.
  • Stewardship includes follow-through on commitments, project deadlines and results monitoring. As well, timely administration of donor accounts is crucial.
  1. Prospect Development:
  • Identify and cultivate a portfolio of key prospects and donors in conjunction with the Director of Fund Development.
  • Operate as an onsite lead for politicians, government officials and tours of the organization.
  • Plan stewardship events that appeal to donors and prospects such as wills
  1. Fundraising Events:
  • Develop events in collaboration with organization staff with the primary goal of fundraising.

Marketing & Communications

 Social media and website:

  • Work with the Senior Manager of Marketing & Communications to maintain a unique social media and website presence for the Veiner and Strathcona Centres’.
  • Ensure all information is up to date and readily available online.
  • Provide timely responses to questions and forward inquiries to the appropriate responder when required.
  1. Promoting:
  • Prepare promotional materials about the Veiner and Strathcona Centres’ to include but not limited to:
    • Production of program/course materials
    • Notices and posters
    • Advertising
    • Photographs of special events or daily activities and timely postings
  • Create promotional material for our monthly newspaper Kerby News, adhering to the newspaper deadlines.
  • Onsite media relations including follow up on media requests and organizing media opportunities.
  • Operate as an onsite lead for politicians, government officials and tours of the organization.
  1. Troubleshooting:
  • Identify areas of possible liability and present the information to the Senior Manager of Marketing & Communications.

4. Maintain confidentiality in client and Kerby Assembly business.

5. Wear attire appropriate to the position

Qualifications/Expertise

 Education:

  • Two-year diploma or university degree in related field such as: Communications, Commerce, Fund Development or Marketing. Industry equivalent experience may be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Excellent customer service skills and phone etiquette.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Ability to plan, problem solve and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to collaborate as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and can interact with a wide range of individuals in the community.
  • Able to negotiate with honesty, integrity, and possess a standard of excellence. Strong fund development skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to network and build strategic partnerships. This includes the ability to “cold call” prospects.
  • Experience in social service sector, considered an asset.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle or access to one on a periodic basis.
