The services of Kerby Social Work/Outreach are designed to assist older persons in maintaining as independent a lifestyle as possible. Individuals 55 years of age and older are encouraged to contact the Social Work staff for information and assistance about any matter of personal concern. All contacts are strictly confidential. Families who are concerned about a senior parent or relative are also invited to consult the social work staff.
The range of services and programs currently offered include:
Assessment and referral to appropriate community services and programs.
Individual and family counselling to any senior person and/or family member on care giving, grief, elder abuse, and depression.
Home visits for assessment, in-home counselling, and support.
Educational presentations and training programs on elder abuse, aging, retirement, grief and loss, retirement transitions, depression and care giving.
Money Matters: an educational program to prevent seniors becoming victims of financial abuse by people they trust.
Multicultural brochures in 13 languages on the indicators of elder abuse. The languages are Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, English, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Gujurati, Hindi, Punjabi, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. These are available at no charge.
