Up and active! Consider the exciting programs offered at Kerby Centre. Winter, spring, summer, or fall, there's something for everyone 60-plus. Get your feet wet in aquacise, develop your artistic side, or learn a new language. Kerby Program staff are eager to provide information on Kerby Centre programs or offer suggestions for programs at other locations. Or search for yourself at Program Opportunities for Calgary Seniors

Kerby courses vary from semester to semester. The following is a sampling of the types of programs commonly run at Kerby Centre.

  • Physical Fitness and Lifestyle Education: Various fitness programs are offered comprising traditional aerobics, aquacise, yoga, strength training, and speciality strength programs, walking, balance workouts, mindful movement, pilates, line and belly dancing. Classes are available at various functional fitness levels.


  • Arts and Crafts: Calligraphy, woodcarving, silk painting and card making.


  • Fine Arts: Drawing, water colours, pastels, collage, acrylics, mixed media, framing, art gallery hopping.


  • Languages: Spanish.


  • Academics: Bridge, poetry, creative writing, write your own life story, political science, opera and music appreciation, history and other lecture series on various topics.


  • Computer:Courses aimed at beginner to intermediate level covering Word, Internet, Email and Windows XP. 3-hour workshops also offered..


  • Health Prevention/Enhancement: Arthritis self-management, AMA Driver 55+, reflexology, memory fitness, meditation etc.


  • General Interest: Half-day or full-day workshops on topics such as Alberta weather or how to buy a computer are offered as requested by the membership.


Please note: These programs are geared to independent seniors who can manage their own personal needs. If help is required to meet your personal needs, your caregiver is welcome to attend with you to assist.

Kerby Program staff also provide training for instructors working with active and disabled seniors.
